Medicare done right - when you need it.

You’ve worked hard your whole life and now you’re ready to relax and spend time with your loved ones – happy and healthy. That’s why choosing the right Medicare insurance coverage – and insurance agent is too important to leave to chance

Do I need Medigap or Medicare Advantage Plan?

If you’re enrolled in Medicare, you’ve likely come across two common options for additional coverage: Medigap (Medicare Supplement) and Medicare Advantage (Part C). But which one is right for you?

Medigap helps cover the “gaps” in Original Medicare—like deductibles, copays, and coinsurance—giving you more predictable out-of-pocket costs and the freedom to see any doctor who accepts Medicare.

Medicare Advantage is an all-in-one alternative to Original Medicare, often including extra benefits like dental, vision, hearing, and prescription drug coverage—all for a low or even $0 monthly premium. However, you may need to stay within a provider network.

The best choice depends on your health needs, lifestyle, travel habits, and budget.

Medicare FAQs

To qualify for Medicare, you generally need to meet three requirements:

  • Be age 65 or older (or younger if you qualify due to disability).

  • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

  • Have a qualifying work history—typically 10 years of paying Medicare taxes for premium-free Part A.

You can check your Medicare eligibility online through the official Social Security website or Medicare.gov. Most people become eligible at age 65, but younger individuals with certain disabilities or conditions may qualify earlier. To confirm eligibility, you’ll need to provide basic personal information such as your date of birth and work history

Medicare eligibility in North Carolina follows federal guidelines, meaning you may qualify if:

  • You’re 65 or older
  • You’re under 65 with certain disabilities
  • You have End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or ALS

State-specific programs and Medicare Advantage plans may differ, and I can help you find the best fit for your NC zip code.

You don’t always get Medicare automatically when you turn 65. If you’re already receiving Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board benefits, you’ll typically be enrolled automatically in Medicare Parts A and B. However, if you’re not yet receiving retirement benefits, you’ll need to sign up during your Initial Enrollment Period, which starts three months before your 65th birthday.

Medicare isn’t entirely free at age 65. Most people qualify for premium-free Part A if they or their spouse worked and paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years. However, Medicare Part B (which covers doctor visits and outpatient care) always has a monthly premium, even if you qualify for free Part A. You may also pay extra costs for prescription drug coverage (Part D), Medicare Advantage plans or supplemental plans depending on what you choose.

I’ll help you understand exactly what you’ll pay—and how to minimize your out-of-pocket costs.
